The goal: One million listeners and 100,000 listener- sponsors by the year 2006. WBAI now has about 250,000 listeners and 26,000 listener-sponsors. We believe a much larger audience exists right now for WBAI’s peace and justice orientation. All that’s needed is to go out and find them.

The campaign: Mainstream media keeps you on the outside, a passive consumer, while WBAI invites you in to participate in our survival and growth. Help the Outreach Department to organize:

• Town meetings to provide listener supporters the opportunity for direct dialogue with WBAI’s general manager, Don Rojas

• Forums at tri-state area community centers and union halls featuring political discussion and live performance, broadcast live when possible

• Remote broadcasts of Wakeup Call and other signature programs, with live audience participation

• A Speakers Bureau to make presentations and set up informational tables at community centers, public forums, demonstrations, and other venues

• Distribution teams to give out and sell promotional items such as palm cards, flyers, schedules, stickers, buttons, t-shirts, CDs, and the WBAI “Truth Seeker Radio”

• Phone banks and pledge-drive volunteers

• Local listener support groups where you and your neighbors can meet each other and promote the station locally

• Outreach advisory groups

• Public gatherings to bring us together, introduce new people, and have fun! Remember, you are WBAI’s most powerful promoters. Tell your friends to listen to WBAI. Convince at least one to become a listener-sponsor. Person by person, we will reach a million people together!
