The WBAI Local Advisory Board (LAB) is made up of 16 listeners and staff who reflect diverse communities of the WBAI signal area. The LAB promotes the Pacifica mission and advises station management on meeting the needs of the listening audience. LAB members also serve on the Program Council and on committees to recommend candidates for paid staff and management.
Following the December 2000 “Christmas Coup” by the former pro-
corporate Pacifica management, the LAB formed part of the spearhead of listener-activists who struggled successfully to regain WBAI and Pacifica. Now the LAB is poised to meet the challenge initiated by general manager Don Rojas to help increase WBAI’s audience to one million listeners by spreading the message of Peace and Justice Radio.
The LAB meets once a month (often the first Tuesday, usually at the station—check www.wbai.org) and the public is invited. Listener comments and suggestions are solicited at all meetings and are welcome anytime: input@wbailab.org or 212-209-2919. Website: www.wbailab.org
A metamorphosis of the LAB is fast approaching (see article above).
